Now that he can concentrate solely on the wine-merchanting side of his business (the Croque-en-Bouche restaurant sadly closed in 2002), Robin Jones continues to do great things with his wine listings from Australia, the Rhone and New Zealand. Best of all is his amazing treasure trove of old Australian vintages - Shiraz ages spectacularly: try Robin's 1970 Lindeman's Hunter Shiraz (Bin 4110) or 1974 McWilliams Philip Hermitage to be convinced.
 
As well as covering the wine world pretty comprehensively, Robin likes to focus on anything 'weird and different', which can mean

At a heftier price tag are a few old vintages of Bordeaux and Burgundy (Chateau Brane-Cantenac 1929 or 1978 Pommard).
 
If you're looking for more familiar great names, you won't be disappointed by Chateau de Beaucastel from the Rhône, Veuve Clicquot champagne, or Chateaux d'Yquem and Nairac Sauternes. And if you want to have just one special bottle and keep the rest of the case price down, this will be no trouble either: the average bottle spend at C-en-B is a respectable £8.00. Expect lots of tips and tasting notes to aid choices along the way.
